Dominant Trait

"Biology 30 Module 6 Lesson 1 Key Terms Flashcards By Proprofs". Proprofs.com. N.p., 2017. Web. 19 May 2017.
This is an example of a dominant trait in a punnett square. The purple colored flowers are more dominant that the white flower; thus, the dominant trait is shown as a homozygous genotype of PP and heterozygous genotype Pp.

Fast Facts:

  • Gregor Mendel stated his laws that the dominant gene will hide recessive genes even if it's a heterozygous genotype.
  • It is represented by the capital letter in a punnett square.
  • It is the stronger gene.
  • In Mendel's experiments the F1 generation turned out to be 100% heterozygous and it showed the dominant gene. When he crossed the F1 generation the F2 generation came out to be 3-1 ratio with the dominant gene still preserving.
Reflection:
It was really interesting to learn about punnett squares again. I remember learning about them in 7th grade and this was a great refresher. We didn't go as depth in 7th grade as much as we did this year. Learning about dominant genes was one of my favorite topics we covered this year because it was easy to understand as well.

  1. You explained this topic very well. What I would have done differently though is I would have put my citation at the very end And i wouldn't have pout my picture that close to the top of the blog. Im very glad to hear that you found this topic interesting because I did as well.

  2. I really like the way you laid out your information, the picture is also helpful in understanding dominant traits. I also like how it's short and sweet so that it can help us study. One thing I would've liked is if you put a straight forward definition of was a dominant trait is, but other than that I thought it was pretty cool how you put in the fun facts too.

  3. You really explained this topic well and I like how you did 'Fast Facts.' Your reflection was very well written. Your blog post helped me with Punnett Squares because I get confused sometimes. The only thing you could of added is a review.

  4. I love the way you provided quick information to make it easy to study the main idea. In your reflection you said you did these in 7th grade, and I didn't because we had a sub for over 1/2 the year since she was on maternity leave. I also like that you included the example of a punnett square.

  5. I like how this explains everything in a short manner. I like how to explained you learned this is 2nd grade, it helped me connect. If I were you, I would've liked it if you elaborated on the difference of Dominant and Recessive.

  6. I really like the picture you put on here and your describe is well written and straight to the point. It is really cool that you remember some if this from the 7th grade and this is a good review for you. I think that you could add what a dominant trait would look like on a pedigree.
