Mutation: Addition
Mutation: Any change in a strand of amino acids. Mutations can be caused by radiation, nondisjunction, drug abuse, etc. There are three types of mutations
• Addition
• Deletion
• Insertion
Addition: When one nitrogen base is added into the DNA sequence, resulting in a change of the intended amino acid or a premature stop codon.
• Addition mutations can also be called insertion.
• Addition mutations can also be called insertion.
Reflection:
• Insertion mutations occur spontaneously during DNA replication. This mutation can be passed down to offspring if the mutation affects the sperm or egg cells. I learned that environmental factors, such as smoking, cannot affect offspring. Addition mutations are frameshift mutations, which means that they can change every amino acid that comes after it. I was surprised to learn that a premature stop codon is referred to as a nonsense mutation.

I like how you put all the examples of all the mutations. I would add something about what it could do to you physically and how it could affect your appearance. I did not know what a premature stop codon was called a nonsense mutation.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good blog because you included on all the types of mutations not just addition. I would add how this occurs and what could happen to your appearance. The reflection is solid due to the fact that you included useful information that you learned.
