Lactic Acid

Lactic Acid:

Dictionary definition-Lactic acid is an organic compound with the formula CH₃CHCOOH. In its solid state, it is white and water-soluble. In its liquid state, it is clear. It is produced both naturally and synthetically.

When your body lacks oxygen carbohydrates breaks down for energy and makes lactic acid. Lactic acid levels get higher when doing strenuous exercise or from other conditions like heart disease. Another way that lactic acid levels get high is when the liver is damaged because it usually breaks down the lactic acid in the body. If to much lactic acid builds up in your body you could have a life threatening condition called lactic acidosis.

What I learned:
One thing I learned was that the liver breaks down the lactic acid and if you have liver damage it can cause lactic acid build up. Another thing I learned is heart disease can cause and excessive production of lactic acid.

  1. You did really well on your blog post. Did this topic interest you? One thing that you left out is, lactic acid happens when glucose is broken down and oxidized.

  2. I feel like it was good to add what the colors are when solid and liquid. I think that you could have explained the formula. I think you could have add a animation.

  3. I like how you have the picture that displays the symptoms of acidosis. I think it was useful for you to add into your reflection that large amounts of lactic acid can lead to heart diseases. One thing I think you could have added to your blog is that lactic acid is part of the anaerobic side of cellular respiration.

  4. I like how you put the Dictionary definition and 2 relative photos of Lactic Acid.
However I would not have got my information from Wikipedia because it is an unreliable source. If you also added an animation to your presentation this Blog would be a HOME RUN!!
