Plasma Membrane Mia DiTommaso

Cell Organelle: Plasma Membrane

The plasma membrane is what forms the outer boundary of an animal cell. It is composed of lipids and proteins.

Functions of Plasma Membrane:
 - to keep cellular material inside of the cell
 - to provide a flexible shape
 - to control what moves in and out of the cell (semipermeable)

Structure of Plasma Membrane:

This is the structure of the plasma membrane. This is made of a bilayer of phospholipids, receptor proteins, and transport proteins. These things allow certain things to enter and leave the cell.

Summary:
While researching the plasma membrane, I didn't learn much. It was mostly review about stuff that I had already known. When I first learned about the plasma membrane, it surprised me to learn that it allows stuff in and out. I had figured that it is just there to hold the cytoplasm and other organelles in the cell. I enjoyed doing this topic because I already knew about it, making writing about it easy.

  1. The layout of the post makes it very easy to read, but it could have had a little more information. One thing to add would be something about how the phospholipids actually work or what the receptor proteins do.

  2. I really like the picture that label everything on the plasma membrane and you explain everything very well. Why didn't you do something a little harder for you, so you are challenge to write something and learn something new. You should add more details about phospholipids, receptor proteins, and transport proteins and what makes them special.

  3. I really like your blog post, because it had an adequate amount of details that help me get a quick review of the plasma membrane and still understand it thoroughly. For your reflection, I agree that there isn't a lot of information to learn about the plasma membrane but it had also surprised me that the plasma membrane actually takes in materials and releases them. I had found it really interesting that the plasma membrane was made up of complex parts like phospholipids, receptor proteins and channel proteins that are all really important for our body. Another detail that you could add about the channel proteins of the plasma membrane is that they allow for the transport of large molecules, like large molecules of sugar.
