Antibiotics - Hannah

What are Antibiotics?
Antibiotics are medications that destroy or slow down the growth of bacteria. They are used to treat diseases or illnesses caused by bacteria. They are able to accomplish their job by killing the bacteria or keeping them from copying themselves.

Antibiotics DO NOT treat viral illnesses.
Some viral illnesses that antibiotics DO NOT treat are:
- cold
- flu
- sore throats
- stomach flu

Here are some examples of bacteria causing infections that are treated with antibiotics:

- Ear and sinus infections
- Dental infections
- Skin infections
- Meningitis
- Strep throat
- Bladder and kidney infections
- Whooping cough

Although antibiotics are good for treating bacterial illnesses, they can affect your digestive system.
Some side effects may include:
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Loss of appetite

Reflection:
I chose this topic because it was a topic that I had briefly studied before. There were certain doubts and questions that I was still uninformed about. Choosing this topic gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and conduct deeper research than I had done prior to this project. Since I want to become a doctor, I felt like this topic suited me very well.

  1. I liked your bulleted list, it made the important information easier to find. You said you wanted to be a doctor, do you think antibiotics are always the best way to treat sickness and why? I also liked the gif of the antibodies fighting off the bacteria as its a visual way to see how much smaller bacteria is then cells.
