Characteristics of Life

Characteristics Of Life

Grey Wilson

The basis of the characteristics of life revolve around the fact that the organism has two main goals. Reproduce and survive.

Homeostasis:
A major part of survival is making sure your body functions correctly, by maintaining homeostasis.

Homeostasis is keeping something constant or the same.

- An example of Homeostasis is how your body keeps your temperature, pH, blood levels, fluid levels, and insulin levels the same.

Reproduction:
The most important park of keeping your species alive, is to reproduce. There are two types of Reproduction; Sexual and Asexual

Sexual: Sexual reproduction requires 2 organisms, and uses egg and sperm to create an embryo.

Asexual: Asexual reproduction only requires 1 organism and they include: binary fission, fragmentation and budding.

Mutations:
Mutations is an absolute must if a species is to survive. Mutations help start natural selection, letting the species get stronger.

Example: Darwin's finches beaks were changed over a period of time, allowing them to adapt to their environments, and letting them survive.

Reflection:
After learning about these characteristics of life, it helped me realize how the conditions have to be perfect for a species to survive. They have to be able to keep homeostasis, reproduce, and evolve to the point of where they can survive successfully without going extinct.

  1. I liked how you color-coded everything so it was easy to tell when you were changing topics. It was smart to add in your reflection the three goals of all living things. One thing I think you could have added was when you were talking about Finch's birds, you could have talked about how geographic barriers affected the development of the birds.

  2. The color-coded information is visually pleasing. Your reflection made me realize how important it is that each process works properly in order for the other to function just as well too. I think under asexual reproduction, you could've talked about how it occurs within an individually specifically and only for body cells.
