Sex Chromosomes

Sex Chromosomes

Sex chromosomes are the chromosomes that make up whether you are boy or a girl. A females sex chromosomes are XX while a boys are XY.
  • The male always determines the sex of the offspring since he can either give a X or Y, a female can only give an X.
  • Sex-linked disorders occur in more males because they do not have the homologous chromosome to block the disorder from carrying over.
  • On an karyotype chart every other chromosome is know as an autosome except for the sex chromosomes.
  • It is important to know about your sex chromosomes for future reference of offspring.

  1. I like that you included a picture of what it should look like. I like that you made the connection to having children, do you think its ethical to research on embryos? I also like the way you organized the information as it is easy to read and study.

  2. This serves as an effective quick study tool! It is straight and to the point. What are your views on gene therapy? Would you have it done if you knew your child came with a disorder? I would have pointed out exactly why it's important to know for your future offspring. I would have also included a little introduction on sex-linked diseases for a better understanding.
