Hemophilia

Hemophilia

Hemophilia is a disease where blood doesn't clot normally. Small cuts aren't as big of a risk as internal bleeding which can effect the persons organs, which can be life threatening. There is no known cure as of right now for hemophilia. Hemophilia is inherited but 30% of the people who are effected by hemophilia don't have any family history and they got it from a spontaneous gene mutation.  There is three types of hemophilia, Hemophilia A and B are passed down typically from mother to son by the sex chromosomes. Whilst Hemophilia C can be passed down from either parent (can occur in girls and boys).

Signs and Symptoms:
unexplained excessive bleeding
many large bruises
pain, swelling and tightness of your joints
unexplained blood in your urine
nosebleeds from an unexplained cure
bruising extremely easily
more prone to blood infections

Testing:
can test on fetus before birth
can be caught typically before 8 months
almost always caught before the age of two
milder hemophilia can be caught after a surgery if there is excessive bleeding

Treatment:
no cure although there is stuff you can do to help
you can inject hormones to help with blood clotting
physical therapy
vaccinations

reflection:
Before this I knew nothing about hemophilia. I just wanted to know more about it because I was genuinely curious. It was interesting to find out that majority of people who have hemophilia have gotten from their mothers. 30% of people get it from genetic mutations. It crazy to see how bad and life threatening this could be.

  2. I love how you made sure to emphasize key details and how it relates to genetics. I would have loved to see hemophilia compared to something outside biology in your reflection. Also, your citations need to be put in MLA format, other than that your blog is perfect.

  3. I like this blog, it has all necessary information and all is present. The only thing you could fix is spelling errors. But very nice blog!.

  4. I think that the way you described what hemophilia is was well put. I think that you could have but your explanation of what hemophilia is could have been shorter than what it was. You could have add a video that explains how hemophilia works. The reflection I feel could have add why fathers don't give it to the child.

  5. Your explanation of this topic is really going to help me study and get a better understanding of hemophilia. there are a few spelling errors and you could've added a more visual description. It is good you learned about how dangerous and life threatening this genetic mutation can be.

  6. I really enjoyed your post and found myself learning new things about this topic. In your reflection you said you took this topic because you were curious, what made you so curious about this topic? If there is anything to add I would say a bit more color. I think if you use colors right you can really make your post come to life. Good job!
